Marlon Brando makes his motion picture debut in this tense post-war drama. Ken (Brando), is a wounded veteran just released from WWII service and confined to a wheelchair. His condition has made him embittered, confused, and depressed. Before being wounded he was engaged to Ellen (Teresa Wright). He breaks off the engagement upon his return and refuses even to see her. Ellen enlists the help of Dr. Brock who acts as intermediary and locates Ken. With time, Ken agrees to see Ellen and their romance is renewed. Their plans for marriage force both Ken and Ellen to confront the difficult adjustments they both must make. Brando's powerful performance in The Men established him as a dynamic film actor.
